This website is intended to provide useful information to users of the court and other members of the public. The website is not intended to provide legal advice or be a substitute for legal advice. If you have questions regarding a specific situation you are urged to seek legal counsel. If you cannot afford an attorney you may qualify for a court appointed attorney if you are charged with a traffic or criminal offense that has a possible jail penalty. If you have been charged with such an offense you may visit the court at any time during regular business hours and fill out a form requesting to have an attorney appointed to represent you. There is a $25.00 application fee charged by the State of Ohio which is supposed to be paid within 7 days from the date you apply for the attorney. If you cannot afford $25.00 you may apply for a waiver. The court is not permitted to appoint an attorney to represent you in a civil case [including Small Claim and Eviction cases]. If you cannot afford an attorney you should contact the Lorain County Legal Aid Society 440-324-1121 or the Lorain County Bar Association 323-8416. They may or may not represent you or provide a referral.
